Mojave

Eight days and 3,000 miles into a cross-country trek, DC was firmly in my rearview mirror. I had driven throughout the night crossing Arizona and was further disoriented by a flash sandstorm on California state highway 58. Highway patrolmen diverted traffic off the highway into a solemn caravan slowly winding its way through desert towns until the storm broke as suddenly as it had begun. Before me lay the Tehapachi Pass and this glorious blue sky. I was nearly to the Pacific.

Sher Kahn

As much as I would like to introduce this image with a tale about big-game-hunting in deepest, darkest, Africa, I will stick to the facts. This is one of the tigers at the National Zoo, enjoying a refreshing dip on a hot and humid day in our nation's capital.

This photograph was shown as part of the DCist Exposed gallery show in March 2007.

STOP...motion

In the fall of 2006, I had the good fortune to spend three months living and working in Munich, Germany. Few regions are as picturesque as Bavaria, and I passed many hours wandering through the city and surrounding countryside with my bicycle and camera in tow.

Marienplatz is the central square of Munich, home to the majestic city hall and famous Glockenspiel. It is also a bustling hub for tourists and locals alike, as evidenced in this image. I sat patiently for some time to capture this view, synchronizing the passage of bicyles with a sweeping pan with the camera.
